Greengauge first engaged with our UK bowls surface manufacturer Leigh Spinners in the late 1990s.
Manufactured in England, our Greengauge artificial bowls surfaces have evolved to include the Greengauge Punch 1700 bowling surface system. Alongside this development, we offer various weighted Greengauge Bowling underlays designed specifically for our Greengauge Punch surface.
Originally developed as a slower-speed outdoor bowling surface with longevity in mind, our Needle Punch surface remains a popular choice throughout Europe, particularly within the hotel and holiday industry. Over the last 20 years, Needle Punch surfaces have been successfully installed around the world.
The number 1700 refers to the weight of the surface (1700g/m²). Our Greengauge Punch surfaces have been manufactured exclusively in the UK since 1994.

Our World Bowls approved Greengauge Punch 1700 (1700g/m²) surface comes with a 10-year pro-rata guarantee. The surface is UV stabilised to a 600KL level of protection, which testing has determined to be the maximum suitable level for this combination of materials.
The Greengauge Punch 1700 bowling surface is a fibre-bonded textile made from specially selected, colour-stable polypropylene fibres. Its construction incorporates a polyester base material for maximum stability. The fibres have a low-glare finish, providing a surface that is soft underfoot, comfortable to play on and gentle on bowls.
A choice of underlays is available to help fine-tune playing characteristics. While the underlay can have a modest effect on speed, the Needle Punch surface itself is the main determining factor, typically providing playing speeds between 12.5 and 14 seconds. For many club bowlers, this represents an ideal outdoor bowling speed, particularly in windy conditions.

The Greengauge Punch 1700 system allows water to pass freely through the surface vertically and, in conjunction with the underlay, drain laterally. This provides excellent drainage potential when installed over porous macadam or suitably graded concrete with perimeter drainage.
This efficient drainage system allows almost continuous playing opportunities, even during adverse weather conditions. Snow, however, can make the route to the jack a little more challenging!

Minimum Maintenance
Maintenance requirements are minimal. Regular use of an industrial wet/dry suction cleaner, combined with occasional light brushing to remove leaves and other organic debris, is generally sufficient.
Greengauge surfaces do not readily support the growth of moss or mildew. If necessary, moss can be treated using a suitable proprietary moss killer.
